The Payment Pattern (This Stays the Same Every Month)

SASSA pays permanent grants in a staggered 4-day cycle at the start of each month, in this order:

  1. Day 1 — Older Person’s Grant (paid first)
  2. Day 2 — Disability Grant
  3. Day 3 — Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Child) and most other grant types (Care Dependency, Grant-in-Aid, War Veteran’s)
  4. Day 4 — Grant Review / eLife Certification day — beneficiaries flagged for a review or eLife Certification are paid on this day instead of their usual date (see the dedicated section below)

This staggering exists specifically to prevent ATMs, retailers, and SASSA pay points from being overwhelmed by millions of people withdrawing on the same day. It’s not random — it’s the same order every month.

August 2026 is the current month. Dates are confirmed by SASSA. The SRD R370 batch window for months marked with ~ is approximate — SASSA typically confirms exact SRD dates only a few weeks ahead. Also note: National Women’s Day falls on Sunday 9 August 2026, with the public holiday observed on Monday 10 August. This doesn’t affect any of the payment dates above since all fall before the 9th.

The 4th Payment Day — Grant Reviews and eLife Certification

Starting from July 2026, SASSA introduced a 4th payment day each month for beneficiaries who have been flagged for a grant review or eLife Certification. This is new and has caused confusion — here’s what you need to know.

If you’re flagged for review, your grant payment moves from your usual day (Day 1, 2, or 3) to the 4th day. SASSA sends a bulk SMS notification to affected beneficiaries before this happens. So if your money doesn’t arrive on your expected date, check your messages first — don’t panic.

What triggers the 4th-day move:

  • You’ve been selected for a grant review (SASSA periodically checks that beneficiaries still qualify)
  • You need to complete eLife Certification — a digital verification confirming you’re alive and eligible, done via the SASSA online services portal using biometric facial scan

SRD R370 Payment Dates — Why It’s Paid Differently

Unlike permanent grants, SRD R370 doesn’t have one fixed date for everyone. Payments are released in batches across roughly the last week of each month — your specific date depends on your ID/phone combination, your chosen payment method, and when your monthly verification cleared.

The most common point of confusion: seeing “Approved” on the SRD portal does not mean the money has landed yet. Approved means SASSA has cleared you for the month — the actual bank transfer or Postbank load follows in a separate run within that batch window. Give it the full window before assuming something’s wrong.

What If Your Date Falls on a Weekend or Public Holiday?

SASSA does not process payments on weekends or public holidays. If a scheduled date falls on either, payment moves to the next working day. If You Receive More Than One Grant

One exception worth knowing: the Child Support Grant specifically does not disqualify you from also receiving SRD R370 — these two can be received together. Most other grant combinations (Old Age, Disability, Foster Care, and others) cannot be combined with SRD.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Late

  1. Check if you’ve been moved to the 4th payment day — look for an SMS from SASSA about a grant review or eLife Certification. If you got one, your payment will come on the 4th day (e.g. Friday 7 August this month), not your usual date.

  4. Common causes of delay: a recent banking detail change still being verified (see our Banking Details guide), an eLife Certification flag (for permanent grants), a SARS income flag (for SRD), or — easy to overlook — an expired Postbank card. If you still have a SASSA Gold Card, it will stop working permanently after 31 August 2026 — switch to the Black Card now.
  5. If still nothing after 3 business days: call 0800 60 10 11, or visit your nearest SASSA office in person with your ID document

Check your surroundings at ATMs. Avoid withdrawing if you notice anyone lingering nearby or watching the machine.

Never let anyone “help” you finish a transaction. A common scam involves someone claiming your card is stuck and offering to assist — this is how cards get skimmed or swapped.

Put your card and cash away immediately after the transaction, before stepping away from the ATM.

Don’t withdraw your full grant in one go on payment day. Spreading withdrawals across the month reduces how much cash you’re carrying at once and avoids the worst of the day-one queues.
