These are different situations with different fixes — check your status first to see which one applies:

• Suspended — your payments are temporarily paused, usually after a failed identity or biometric check, or not collecting funds for 3 consecutive months. This is the easier one to fix.

How to Reinstate a Suspended Grant

If your grant is suspended rather than cancelled, this is usually the quicker fix:

• If it’s unclear why you were suspended, visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID document

How to Reinstate a Cancelled Grant

1. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate directly
2. Enter your 13-digit ID number and the cellphone number registered with your application
3. Verify with the OTP sent by SMS
4. Select “Reinstate My Canceled Application”
5. Choose a reason — common options include “Cancelled in error,” “No longer have income,” or “Disability”
6. Confirm or update your current details — this is important, since incorrect information is one of the most common reasons reinstatement requests get declined
7. Complete identity verification if prompted, which may include a face-scan

It’s Not Automatic Approval

Requesting reinstatement doesn’t guarantee approval. SASSA reviews your request against the current eligibility rules, not the rules from when you originally applied. What About Other Grants (Disability, Child Support, Old Age)?

The online reinstatement portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate is for the SRD R370 grant only. If SASSA suspended or cancelled your Older Person’s Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, or any other permanent grant, the process is different:
